Eigentlich wäre zu dieser Zeit, im Normalfall, das neue Need for Speed angekündigt bzw. angeteasert worden. Wie Community Manager Ben Walke nun aber auf Reddit und in einem offiziellen Blog Eintrag erklärt, wird das neue Need for Speed nicht auf der EA Play (ein EA eigenes Event im Vorfeld der E3) angekündigt. Ben schreibt dazu auf Twitter: "We are skipping EA Play, staying at home to work on the game".

Im Artikel auf Reddit schreibt er, dass es eigentlich eine Tradition ist, die neuen Spiele immer so gegen Ende Mai oder Anfang Juni anzukündigen aber man das nicht so weiterführen muss, nur weil man es bisher so getan hat - könnte ein Hinweis auf das Spiel selbst sein, vielleicht bricht der neue Ableger mit einer Tradition? Auch nicht zu vergessen ist die Tatsache, dass die Need for Speed Serie dieses Jahr ihren 25. Geburtstag feiert, vielleicht haben EA und Ghost Games anlässlich dieses Events etwas spezielles für die Serie oder die Enthüllung geplant.

This year is a bit of a special one for NFS, too, as we are turning 25 years. We’ve had almost 25 years going fast, and we can’t wait to kickstart our 26th with the next NFS game.

But even while focusing on the future – especially this year – we’ve also thought a lot about what NFS means to you, and perhaps more importantly what we hope it will mean as we move forward.

Tradition, and our above note about a new game later this year, dictates that this is the time when you’ll be eagerly hitting F5 on our Social Media channels, waiting for that first detailed sign of something new, for that first teaser to drop. But let’s hold fire on that for now.
Because traditions are all well and good, but they can also be broken, and new ones forged. Just because we’ve done something one way for the last few years, doesn’t mean we should continue to do so.

Wann wir mit mehr Infos zum Spiel rechnen können lässt Ben aber offen, möglicherweise müssen wir bis zur Gamescom im August warten, bis das neue Spiel offiziell enthüllt und vorgestellt wird.
Ben bestätigt aber nochmals, dass der neue Teil, für den aktuell noch kein Name bekannt ist, noch 2019 erscheinen wird.
